I've been saving a set of links for a "WTFriday" for two weeks now, and then have spent the last two fridays being too busy to post 'em.  So: Happy Monday!  Happy Memorial Day!

I think I want to know where this rainbow-vomiting panda meme comes from.  I think I do.

  • I saw Coraline this morning at the Pavilion, preceded by a nice walk through the park.  Coraline was a bit better than I expected it to be-- I feel like everyone who has seen (and posted about) it has said that it was nice but not great.  I think I agree, I don't think it was A Great Movie, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, thought it did its thing quite well, thought it was a good fit for 3D without pandering to it, loved the animation and the creative details, mostly liked the story.  It had pacing problems, but those were apparent because I liked the story enough to want to see more of some things and less of others.
  • On 3D: I think  more stop-motion animation should be filmed in 3D.  Not only does stop motion tend to play with depth a lot anyway (which 3D accentuates in fun ways), but the exaggeration of motion in stop-motion, the art of the animation of it, seems to me to be like the exaggeration of 3D movies.  I'm having a hard time articulating this, but I like the combination.
  • A week of demi-unemployment has done expected wonders for my apartment: I've gotten rid of a few boxes, hung a few things on walls, done long-overdue shopping and cleaning.  I'm still not there (still have only earned one of the three house-related WiiWare games, so far), but the improvement is cheering me.
  • I got back in touch with a college friend recently by, accidentally, posing as a cousin-in-law.  We'd been out of touch for a few years when a googlestalk of someone else randomly turned up her wedding registry back in October.  Figuring it likely that the registry would be hers based on the names, I sent a low-end but appropriate gift from the registry and figured that if I was wrong, then at least it would be funny for the recipient to get a gift from some stranger.  Months passed and I figured I'd been wrong, or that the loss of contact had been more intentional than I'd thought; then a few days ago a letter showed up.  Apparently the newlyweds had seen my first name and thought I was a random cousin; when they were cleaning up recently, they realized that I wasn't and sent me a thank-you card.  A delightful surprise in my week, though now I wonder whether I caused an erroneous thank-you to go out to the cousin!

I'm not much of a photographer, so this doesn't pertain to me as much as some, but it seems like a good idea nevertheless:  A quick guide to your photography rights, in printable PDF so that you could tuck it in a pocket when you're going out to witness, wander, or play shutterbug.  It explains when you can and can't take photos, what your rights are if confronted, and what to do if confronted.
