So I went skating around Prospect Park in my utilikilt, and it was not all that weird.
- Oh, the breezes were fiiiine. It's definitely more comfortable than shorts on a hot day like this, even if I do feel the need to wear all black to look sufficiently badass.
- I got a few comments. One guy, stoopin', who exclaimed "what the fuck?" in a good-natured way, as I sped by. One pre-teen boy who walked by with his family, repeatedly giving long glances at the kilt, but who looked me in the eye as he walked by and said, "hello" with the slightest of querulous smiles.
- There was a Burger King cart 1/4 of the way around. I've never seen one of those branded like that for a big chain.
- Do not go for a long skate in the middle of a hot day without having eaten that day, even if you have water.
- I took some time to work on turning and balancing on Center Drive ... it was gorgeous and the woods smelled so much like Southeastern PA that I had some flashbacks to college. I think it's the enormous oak and maybe chestnut trees, possibly with the particular creeper that grows around here. It was definitely more like PA than CNY.
- That was a lot less attention than I expected, and I'm glad for it. Hey, it's New York, eh?
