Everyone's posting about the heat.  My contribution to this is that after two days of poor sleep because of the heat, last night I:

• turned on the AC well before bedtime, to hell with it
• shaved off almost all my hair, with ali_wildgoose's expert help
• realized the essential requirement of an icecube tray for one's freezer

The clippers were on setting "1", which I've shied away from so far.  I think this is as close as I'll get to biccing my head, as my hair is short enough to indicate that I do not have a head that would be pretty as a cueball.  Apparently I have a normal, roundish head, and then I have a second, infant's-sized head that overlaps with that one and sticks out to form my forehead.  I exaggerate a bit, but I'm afraid of looking like some sort of unfortunate human-Alien hybrid if I shaved it completely.

Apparently the heat is supposed to break somewhat tonight or tomorrow in a line of thunderstorms that have been working their way east and north.  However, they're not cold-front thunderstorms, which would bring real relief; they're just storms kicked up by the tremendous energy in the heat wave.  Dammit.
